Where a worker is exposed to substances (chemical carcinogens, mutagens, substances toxic to reproduction) in the course of his/her work activity, the type, amount and duration of exposure to these substances must be determined so that any risks to the worker's health can be assessed and appropriate measures to protect his/her health can be established.

Training must be provided at regular intervals for employees who are or may be exposed to asbestos or dust from asbestos-containing material to enable them to acquire the knowledge and skills to apply good health hazard prevention, in particular on the properties of asbestos and its effects on health, including the synergistic effects of smoking, the types of materials or objects that may contain asbestos, activities likely to involve exposure to asbestos, the importance of control mechanisms to minimise exposure to asbestos, safe working practices, protective measures and control of compliance with them, the selection of appropriate personal protective equipment for respiratory protection including the conditions of use, correct working procedures in the event of an emergency involving a release of asbestos or dust from asbestos-containing material, maintenance or repair, working procedures for decontamination of premises affected by asbestos-containing dust, correct procedures for the storage and disposal of asbestos-containing dust, occupational health services provided to the extent specified by the occupational health service provider for the exposed employee.
