Producers and traders in precious metals are obliged to notify the Assay Office in writing within 15 days from the commencement of their activity of the registration data related to the commencement of their activity, in accordance with the conditions set out in the Assay Act. This notification obligation shall also apply mutatis mutandis to persons selling goods which are the result of their intellectual creative activity protected by a special legal regulation. The Assay Office shall create and maintain the Register of Producers and Dealers in Precious Metals from such data.

The manufacturer shall apply to the Assay Office for the allocation of a production mark on the basis of the trade licence "Goldsmithing and Jewellery" (a bound trade). This trade licence is issued by the Trade Office on the basis of a document proving the attainment of professional competence - an apprenticeship certificate in the field of 'Goldsmith and Jewellery'. The production mark is a mark identifying the manufacturer who produced the product (jewellery). Components or other semi-finished products intended for production do not bear the production mark; the final product is marked by the manufacturer (jeweller).

Manufacturers and dealers are obliged to keep records of the weight and purity of precious metals used and stored.

Manufacturers are required to keep records of the weight of goods produced and repairs carried out, and traders are required to keep records of the receipt, purchase and sale of goods.
